Homemade Sloppy Joes
Who doesn’t love sloppy Joes? Or
a manwhich? Deliciousness on a bun? Whatever you want to call them, they are without a doubt a family
favorite. They have always been a staple my mother use to make for us, and now
I make it. However my mom always used the trusty, handy dandy sloppy Joe mix in
a can. No problem with that. But once you make your own homemade mix, you just
cannot go back to the canned kind. What happens when you feel like sloppy Joes
but you do not have the canned sloppy Joe sauce to do it? Why, you whip this
recipe up with things you should already have in your cabinet. You’re welcome!
Ingredients:
1lb ground meat (deer, chicken, turkey, beef, doesn't matter)
Hamburger buns
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small to medium onion chopped finely or minced
1/2 cup chopped bell pepper
2 garlic cloves
1 can tomato sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
Dash of Texas Pete (optional)
Salt and Pepper to taste
Directions:
First, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, chop up your bell pepper and add them to your hot oil stirring around frequently to cook evenly. Add your ground beef, chopping it up as it cooks with a spatula. While you're doing this begin dicing your onion and adding it to the meat as you go. Add your chili powder and cook until meat is brown and onion has softened. Stir in garlic until well mixed. Add your remaining ingredients, stirring well, and simmer until sauce is thick usually about 5- 10minutes.
Serve with either chips, pickles, tater tots, cut up celery, or carrot sticks. Enjoy!
Sorry for poor picture quality, took these with my iPhone. Trust me though, delicious! |
